The cards

📂 Dans ce dossier
This is by far the most common tool. If you have a reading once in your life, it will probably be in front of a deck of cards.
Four decks, four grammars
The Marseille Tarot, 78 cards. Read through images and combinations: a card takes its meaning from its neighbours. The richest deck, and the longest to learn.
The Petit Lenormand, 36 cards with very concrete images, read as a tableau.
Oracles, modern decks whose rules each creator sets freely.
French 32-card cartomancy, using an ordinary piquet deck. The popular tradition, and the most accessible.
How a reader works
The whole before the detail: how many major cards, which suit dominates, what general tone. Then card by card. Then the combinations.
That is why a reading takes time, and why someone reciting meanings one by one without ever returning to the whole misses the point.
What Chana would add: if a card unsettles you during the session, say so. Some cards carry a fearsome reputation they do not deserve, and a reader would always rather explain than let you leave with an image in your head.

Frequently asked questions
Which deck for a first reading?
You do not have to choose: the reader uses the deck they know best. The Marseille Tarot remains the most widespread in continental Europe.
What is the difference between tarot and oracle?
Tarot follows a fixed structure of 78 cards, shared by every deck. An oracle is a modern deck whose creator sets the card count and rules freely.
Can a card be bad?
No card is read alone: meaning comes from combination and position. If a card unsettles you, ask the reader to explain it.
